Remerciements

  • We would like to thank the donors who made it possible for us to travel to France, and to spend an absolutely amazing fortnight there. This has been an invaluable part of our education.
  • Prof. Gilberte Furstenberg ably led us through the city of Paris - its narrow alleys and complicated restaurant menus. She told us enough to set us on our individual voyages of discovery, and then set us free to experience life à la française.

  • How can we forget Sophie de la Rivière? Our guide to the past and present of Paris, she infected us with her enthusiasm and joie de vivre. As a good host should, she made sure we were always having fun, and put us at our ease even in unfamiliar surroundings.

  • Our thanks go out to all the people at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at MIT - Shannon McCord and Pamela Florek, to name a few.
  • And last, but not least, we are indebted to our predecessors - the January Scholars in France, 2003 with Prof. Edward B. Turk. As the first participants in the program, their experience and encouragement were an invaluable resource!
