Just behind the Opéra Garnier is one of the major department stores in Paris, the Galeries Lafayette. Not only is the store enormous, with a wide variety of designers, but the building itself is lavishly decorated. On the morning of the first day of the winter sales, there was a large crowd of people (mostly middle aged women) waiting outside the doors to get in when the store opened at 8am. Once inside, large crowds developed around some of the most famous designers, such as Gucci. The store is so large that it actually was not very hard to get around, despite the large crowds. As we left the Galeries Lafayette to go to some other stores, we noticed that inside one of the store window displays were three DJs playing music. It was an interesting sight.
