From the top of the Eiffel Tower, Trocadéro lay beneath, perfectly symmetrical about a long rectangular pool.  The area, which contains the Palais de Chaillot, was built for the 1937 Exposition Internationale.  The arched buildings house a number of museums, with a balcony in between from which the view to the Eiffel Tower is as lovely and French as a view can get. On one side sit the Musée national de la Marine and the Musée de l'Homme, while on the other is the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine.  Peddlers holding rings of plastic Eiffel Towers menace the skirts of Trocadéro, but in sunny weather, the pretty white benches are a very pleasant place to sit and watch tourists clamor noisily about.  The outside is just about the best part of Trocadéro, however, at least if you are as determined not to learn anything useful during the trip as I was.
