Opéra Garnier

Opéra Garnier

We weren't able to see an actual opera while in Paris, but we did have the opportunity to visit the incredibly gorgeous Opéra Garnier for a concert. This opera was built under Napoleon III and demonstrates an extremely flamboyant style. The opera also has a more contemporary touch because the ceiling was decorated in 1964 by Chagall. The program for the concert was a homage to Shostakovich and featured three pieces by the composer. I am a big fan of Shostakovich’s music, so this was perfect for me, although I was not blown away by any of the performances. Also the second piece on the program featured a soprano singing Russian poems and this piece was universally deemed to be everyone's least favorite.
